Function 2: Cargo handling and stowage at the operational level

  • How to calculate mean draft

M.Dfwd draft + aft draft
                       2

  • How to calculate the remaining tons to be load

-Get first the mean draft
-subtract it from your summer draft
-multiply immersion at load draft or the TPC
-multiply it by 100
-The result is by TONS

Example:
Given: Summer Load draft=6.40m
           immersion at load draft=6.50 TPC
          Trim by the head= .3
          Aft draft= 3.40
Ask:
        Mean draft
        remaining tons to be load

-add the aft draft and trim by the head in order to get your forward draft
3.40+.3= 3.7
therefore; the 3.7 here is your forward draft

-use the formula of the mean draft

M.D= 3.7+3.40
               2
M.D=3.55 m

-subtract the summer load draft to your mean draft

6.40-3.55=2.85 m

-multiply the answer to your given TPC

2.85 * 6.50 = 18.53

-multiplied it by 100 in order to get the TONS

18.53 * 100 = 1853 TONS is your remaining tons to be load on your cargo.
